It’s not easy for our military to attain financial stability. Military personnel faces unique challenges. It is difficult for spouses of military personnel to find employment outside the military. Veterans may also have difficulty convincing employers that their service in the military can be applied to other fields.
Get credit counseling for veterans and military personnel
Veterans and current members of our military are valuable resources. Our nation shows its gratitude to our veterans every year on November 11 and throughout the rest of the calendar year. We want to ensure that veterans and active military members know they have many options to help them with their debts and credit.
Working with a Credit Coach, service members, and vets can manage their finances and pay off debt. Credit coaching is free and includes debt management advice and a customized financial action plan.
Financial Coaching – Professional financial coaches are available for credit, debts, homeownership, and more.
VA – The Veterans Benefits Administration provides special programs to veterans and their beneficiaries. Veterans can also get home loans, access to education and health benefits, as well as life insurance.
The VA’s GI Bill benefits eligible servicemembers seeking educational and training assistance.
Military Saves is sponsored by our friends at America Saves and is designed to encourage and support military families in saving money, reducing debt, and building wealth.
The Department of Defense funds Military OneSource to provide tax assistance, employment support, and relocation and deployment assistance for members of military families.
Charities, other sources of assistance and
Red Cross – The American Red Cross provides financial aid to military families. This can include money for travel expenses, burial costs, emergency food and shelter, etc.
American Legion – The American Legion provides Temporary financial assistance to military families in need.
Veterans of Foreign Wars – The VFW provides financial grants to American military families who have unexpectedly faced financial difficulty.
Operation First Response – Since 2004, operation First Response has assisted almost 23,689 families with wounded and disabled veterans in emergency financial need.
Operation Home Front – Operation Home Front provides financial assistance to military families, housing programs, and caregiver support.
(Disabled American Veterans – DAV) – (Disabled American Veterans – DAV) helps veterans receive the benefits they are entitled to. Every year, they help over one million veterans and their families.
USA Cares – USA Cares is a veteran and family support system, a nonprofit national organization that helps veterans and their families face hardships due to military service.
Hope For The Warriors offers a “full cycle of care” for service and family members as well as the families of those who have died.
Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes – Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes is a group that helps wounded veterans and their families of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn.
Air Force Aid Society provides emergency assistance through grants and loans with no interest to Air Force families.
Army Emergency Relief offers assistance to families and soldiers with grants, scholarships, and interest-free loans.
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society – The NMCRS provides financial assistance to those in need through grants, loans, financial counseling, and interest-free loans for active duty and retired sailors, marines, and their families, as well as surviving spouses and reservists on active duty.
Coast Guard Mutual Assistance – CGMA assists members of the Coast Guard, their families, and civilian employees. This includes active duty, retired reservists and auxiliaries, and commissioned officers from the Public Health Service.
Local Programs- You may have local programs in your city, county, or state that provide aid to current and former service members. For example, we offer STEP or Support the Enlisted Project in Southern California. You can connect to programs in your area by contacting the Red Cross, Military OneSource, or your local military assistance society.
